Valspar Paints terrible customer service

Valspars American Heritage satin paint appeard to be fading only on the backside of our new home. The paint can label clearly states that it will never fade. After 8 weeks of bs they claim that it is the Hardie Board siding causing an acid reaction! But only the backside of the house? Valspar had their own factory rep come to see it and he claimed that it was the worse fading he had ever seen. Bottom line...Nothing but blaming another companys product. I cannot believe that Lowes would handle a product, which now I found out, has more complaints than any other major paint manufacturer.

We bought 20, 5gal buckets of Valspar paint from the local box store. Had the professional who hung the new drywall do the painting (he does painting & drywall) a 5000 SF home.

B4 we even got all the furniture moved in, the paint was pealing, epically where areas get exposed to moisture, IE: kit & baths. No caulking was done anywhere at this point. The box store turned the matter over to Valspar who in turn came out w/some inspector, who claimed the scattered pealing around the home was small and insignificant. Valspar claimed we trowed non-paintable caulking over the walls b4 painting and it was the installers fault that caused the paint to peal.

One person at the store admitted a few months later that a large load of paint had been left in a semi out back that winter. No one took care of the customer. All efforts of our communication to Valspar ended up w/them eventually pulling the ignorance card. It has been 18 years.

We share our experience & avoid all valspar products. So much for a 20 year warranty.

Lowes Valspar Paint

About 5 years ago i bought a 5 gallon can of Valspar paint from Lowes and it was great. Now ( 8/3/2012) I went in and bought another 5 gallons of the same paint and it is junk. I Have put 3 coats over the old paint and it still has not covered. ( and its white over white ). It is obvoious to me that they have watered it down to increase profit at the expense of the customer. If you read this review and still buy Lowes Valspar Paint , you have nobody to blame but yourself. I must go now and apply my 4th coat and see if that works... Never again ...

Valspar paint cans

Updated by user Jun 28, 2012

As stated this company doesnt care. I made no progress with them in the last thirty days and I will never buy another product from their company.

Original review May 28, 2012
I had a involved project of bringing back to life an old windmeal that was left when I bought the home. I spent a lot of time using muratic acid to strip the old metal down so it could be primed and painted. Valspar paint is the biggest, crappiest spray paint on the market. After about half way through the can the nozzels go bad and all you have is paint drips on the floor and colored hands. I contacted the company and they could care less about your problem. Valspar paint is the worst paint on the market and I hope you take my post seriously. There are other options out there. Dont make the mistake I did.

I have been reading the comments about Valspar paints and I couldn't agree more..the paint is overpriced and difficult to apply. An employee told me he gets alot of complaints about it but that his bosses tell him to push it because they make more money on it than on the Olympic paint they sell.

i had to argue with him to sell me the Olympic! I know that Olympic is a Lowe's brand of paint and it was great!! It covered very well, had no smell, and was almost $10 cheaper!

I spoke with the store manager and told him that he was pushing the wrong paint! Lowe's doesn't make any of their paints, but their name is on the can so I would think they would be more concerned with customer complaints...

VALSPAR PAINT IS HORRIBLE!!

VALSPAR ULTRA PREMIUM HIGH GLOSS WHITE. $32.00 CAN YOU IMAGINE PAINTING WHITE KITCHEN CABINETS (WHITE ORIGINALLY) PUTTING PRIMER FIRST,THEN, 2!! COATS OF WHITE PAINT. PUT THEN UP AND STILL SEE THAT IT NEEDS ANOTHER COAT!!!!! VALSPAR SIGNATURE SEMI GLOSS WHITE. ACTUALLY NEEDED 3 COATS TO COVER THE WALL!!!!! NEVER WILL I BUY VALSPAR AGAIN. ONE COAT COVERAGE IS SO NOT TRUE!! THIS WAS DONE IN APRIL OF 2012. WE PURCHASED THE PAINT AT LOWE'S STORE. I AM A PERSON THAT TENDS TO BUY VIA READING CONSUMER REPORTS,ETC. I AM JUST SADDEN THAT IT COST LOTS OF MONEY AND THEN HAVE FAILURE AND EXTRA WORK.

First of all, you don't put wall paint on cabinets!!! I happen to use Valspar all the time and LOVE it!!.

As a painting contractor since 1972 painting with a " pure " white over darker colors

Is a challenge, regardless of paint quality. I have had to do at least 3 coats, even 4

To cover over light yellow. White does not have the ability to cover like darker shades. I always apply 2 coats, regardless of statements of " one coat coverage " I now use only valspar duramax ( exterior ) and valspar signature ( interior ) interior due to the primer in these 2 products, also you get 400 square coverage instead of the normal 300 square feet. Valspar is a great paint and the only paint i now use !....How dark a color did you paint over.. Just thoughts from a pro painter. Ron

Over ?

Guardsman/ valspar Corp

I purchased a furniture protection plan through Bob's Discount Furniture. The 5 year coverage was to cover accidental damage to my kitchen table, eight chairs and server. Upon submitting two seperate claims for unrelated iissues months apart from each other both claims were declined.

First case was submitted in November of 2011 and claim forms were sent to be filled out. Several weeks later we submitted the forms but shortly after we received a denial letter stating we submitted the forms too late. No time frame was ever discussed or stated in the documentation mentioning a to be completed by date.

Second case was submitted in March of 2012 with all paperwork submitted within 48 hours. Upon several phone calls from the Guardsman requesting pictures, a total of 51 were sent over several weeks, only to get another denial stating the proper paperwork was not submittted in time. Even though we sent pictures showing that both claims were seperate by putting the items next to each other in the same picture, per their request, as proof they still stated that the two claims were the same therefore not covered.

The Guardsman approach is to find anyway possible to deny claims....you will not get coverage no matter how perfect you follow the "rules".

DO NOT PURCHASE a policy from your furniture store if it is a Valspar/Guardsman policy!!

Valspar paint

Painted a bedroom with valspar ultra premium interior eggshell finish. Painted one coat with a roller and noticed it was absorbing into the walls leaving plenty of white marks. That night went over only the white spots where the paint was absorbed and when dried saw all my paint brush touchup marks. Went over the walls again after two days with a roller and when dried saw all my roller marks. I do not recommend this paint. It has been a week and still trying to correct the roller marks so my son can sleep in his room. I have always used Benjamin Moore paints and will never use another brand again. It should no take a ween to paint a 10x10 bedroom. I hope this is helpful.

Valspar Paint

Painted a room in my house with Premium Valspar interior paint on 10/27/11. It is mid January 2012 and the room still fills with horrible smelling fumes if I close the window and turn the fan off. This paint sucks and the company nor Lowe's has no interest in remedying this problem. The room is totally unusable and will small children in the house I fear for their health. This is totally unacceptable. I am left to collect my chemcial analysis and get a lawyer. DON'T BUT VALSPAR PRODUCTS. They are hazardous and made from an unethical company.

:cry

The outgassing of this paint continues 2 months after painting my child's room. If the door is closed for even a few hours, the odor just hits you in the face. I can't imagine sleeping in this room, and it remains unusable.

I've used other paints throughout the years and never encountered such a problem. My first use of Valspar paints and probably my last....

Guest

I completely agree. I just painted my son's room and 3 months later it still smells when the door and windows are shut for any amount of time.

After repeated emails to Valspar and no response, my last email to them was that since we are military and move/paint every 2 years I'll be referring everyone we come in contact with (military and civilian)away from Valspar.

They are a joke. I just wish I saw these emails before I painted my child's room.

Guest

I am sorry to hear about your experience with our product. Under normal conditions the paint odor should not linger for so long. If you can contact me directly I would be happy to work with you to get this issue resolved.

Thank you

Lowes paint valspar

Painted living room and had roller marks I have painted many times and took great pains to not have to little or too much paint on roller. When we complained at the service desk the answer was to much paint on the roller! My wife was watching as I applied paint to assure it was rolling even and it still dried with roller marks. We are now on the third coat of paint and will know in a few days. I will never buy this paint again. Had much better sucess with Behr. Go to Home Depot a repatable paint store in your area.

We used the ez trak flat ceiling paint on our newly primed ceiling. After several trips to the store and several cans of paint, our new ceiling is ruined.

All the employees were helpful after they saw our delema.

They obviously have seen many people go through the same ordeal. HOW can Lowes allow this to continue!!!!IF I am not compensated for this, they will be contacted by a very repitable source, so that no one else has to go through what we had to.....

We have 9 gallons of Valspar sitting in out den right now. My husband painted by the book ~ reading the back of every can and what sort of primer to use under it before painting.

He is a REAL stickler. We got two dark colors to do the walls. Royal Garnet that takes a darker tinted primer and the Azure Jazz (blue). When we opened the 1st can of blue and it was very thin.

We painted the kitchen in this color (with an off Garnet wall). We put a heater blowing on it and after two days it was still tacky. Husband says go get another gallon and I did. The second gallon was thick and we knew something was not right.

We turn the heat up for it to dry and after 4 days it is still tacky; not like the first coat but when the refrigerator door opens and touches the paint you can hear the tacky sound when you shut the door. We have used the correct rollers, we have taped off everything (and the blue tape when pulled off pulled off some of the trim Valspar that was put on prior). We are going to take both blue cans back and show them the difference with the thickness. We will buy no more Valspar and I don't want to hear about this paint the rest of my natural life.

IS THERE ANYTHING OUT THERE THAT WILL COVER THIS PAINT AND NOT BE STICKY?

We talked about it today and with all the painting that we have done we could only come up with one word and that is DISCOURAGED! :sigh

Guest

I had the same issue. I'm no pro, but I've painted many times and never had the walls look as bad as this... As far as the rollers go, they weren't the best, but then again I've never used high-end rollers in the past either.

Valspar Paint (Primer)

One of the worst paints I ever used, the flow rate on this paint is terrible, it did NOT cover in one coat as advertised for the one with the primer in it, ordinarily one could dismiss this as being a weekend warrior job but in my case I painted professionally for several years so I do know paint. Don't buy this *** I have had much better luck with KM and will go back to using them. So apparently I have to have a certain amount of "words" I would hope that Lowes gets a hint and finds a better brand paint because I am sure that this is NOT the one they want to stick with.

Valspar Paint, Horrible Quality

I had the exterior of my house painted, using Valspar exterior, premier/paint. Within three months, the paint has begun to blister and bubble, as well as peel. How utterly ugly is the front exterior of my house.Contact customer service, gave a story, said moisture is causing blistering. Hard to believe, after theree months, this occured. Will not be using Valspar paint again. Will post this complaint on every websit, additionally seeking legal action from damage. How can paint bubble in three months. Really feel exploited. Used other exterior paint on same area, had no trouble. Liked the colors Valspar offered. Apparently, scraficed color for quality. Will never buy Valspar paint again, and will remind other to avoid it,too.

Yes I had the same issue blistering ! Paint area was well prepped and sanded.

I would not buy this product or brand again. Oh and there is a no prime paint they make ... Garbage.

There really is no such thing if you want to paint something right, prime well. I recommend Behr paint or Sherwin Williams.

Good Afternoon,

My name is Jeff Bartos with Valspar. I came across your recent posting and was sorry to hear of your disatisfaction with the Valspar Paint used on the exterior of your home.

Blistering and bubbling can be caused by moisture or other variables.

I would like to discuss these issues with you and to see if I can offer any assistance. If you wish to discuss, please contact me at 888-313-**** or at jbartos@***.com

Valspar

I am a contractor who always uses Sherwin-Williams or Monarch paint with execellent results. Since Valspar cost so much I decided to use it in my house. When I finished I could see every roller mark. When I called them, I was told to give it a week to cure because I had to use s special primer. I gave it a month - no change. I bought the top coat again and went over it again. Still no change. My wife begged me to leave bad enough alone. My advice to you is the same thing I will tell all of my customers "avoid this brand like the plague".

You seem to have a lot of problems with paint, as you posted this C*R*A*P on a different site many months ago, but had a LOWES connection, WTF is your major mal-function.

You trying to extort money from this paint company,??

jb Agy

"Since Valspar cost so much I decided to use it in my house."

That's an odd reason to use their product.

Worst paint I have ever used

I paint a lot, and am very careful in my prep work and application. I make sure surfaces are clean, painters tape is applied well, and use quality brushes and rollers. We have always used Behr or Benjamin Moore in the past, and this was our first time using Valspar paint from Lowes. This paint was thin and watery and left millions of air bubbles when applied with a roller. It also ran under the painter's tape like you would not believe, ruining previously painted walls. Coverage is nowhere close to what is advertised on the can - so we had to buy more of this *** paint to get the coverage we needed. I will stick to using Behr or Benjamin Moore in the future. Valspar paint is by far the worst painting experience I have had.

Valspar terrible paint

valspar ultra premium flat ceiling paint is terrible. It is watery and will leave streaks and will not blend to one color. i have called valspar and have been told it is not the product. I have wasted more time on this situation with no resolve from valspar or lowes. i have been trying to find out if it is old paint it has 2007 listed on it does that meen it was made in 2007. why does the consumer have to deal with all the poor quality out there. it just gets worse nobody cares. who you gona call(goustbusters?)

I definitely agree, bought 15 gal. of Valspar ext.

house paint which went on like water color.

Worst paint I've ever tried to use. I ended up having to buy 10 gal Sherwin Williams Super Paint to cover the mess.

Not Just Red Walls but Red Face Also.

My husband and I bought a fixer upper. We needed to paint the whole house. Lowe's is close so we decided to do all our shopping there. We bought Valspar paint in many colors. We painted the kitchen first. We bought the primer that was recommended and they mixed our red. I painted and it didn't dry. I called the Valspar rep and like everyone else I got the run around. I was told it was b/c the paint was red and it's hard to use. Trusting them (dummy me) I painted the rest of the house in numerous colors. Not one dried right. Lowe's did give me some money for the paint ($38.00 a gallon was what I paid for it) but I am left w/a mess. I am disabled and I needed help the first time. How am I suppose to pay someone to come back and repaint. I am so upset w/Valspar. Oh, I was suppose to have a rep come to my home and check out the paint. On four different occasions I waited all day for them to come. No one came or called. I guess I should have looked on this site before painting. I, too, feel like standing at Lowe's painting counter and telling everyone how I got screwed. I wonder how much money Valspar would lose. Not as much as I have.

The rest of my post read as : did not help the sale either. Valspar should take care of you especially since you are disabled this situation doesnt speak well of their company or their paint.

This post just cost valsrar a sale on barn red paint. The unconcerned and even less helpful paint salesman at Lowes .
