I just spent $6000 on a new front door a gabled entry and ruined the door by trying to paint the primed door with Valspar 1010-7 Berry Brown paint. I have applied 4 coats over 16 hours and still the primer shows through this crappy paint. It was purchased from Lowes". Paint is mottled and blotchy and caked on parts of the door/. Too late now as I have to try to get this crap to cover and at least make the door the same lumpy color?. I may put a little plaque on it dedicating the paint job to Valspar as a warning to all that see the door|. I have been painting for 25 years from being a landlord for many years and I have never seen a paint cover so poorly as this.. I have learned a lesson". Buy from a Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore|. They make great product and stand behind their product?. I will say one thing.. It does make the door look old buy making the paint layers clump. 1294a30

You were lucky Jeff. Valspar sent me an email and said they would refund the cost of the paint. They asked for the lot no which I provided and never heard from them again. Valspar is the worst paint and the an even poorer customer service rep. I am going to have to strip the paint off the door and repaint this summer. I was going to put a sign on my front lawn calling attention to the paint. I also make a point to go down the paint isle in Lowes when I am there and caution anyone looking at paint about the Valspar quality. One customer can make a difference.Nz8Hh :(

I wish I had seen these Valspar reviews before I painted my house with Valspar! Its been three weeks and the paint has not dried. It feels oily and slick and tacky. It rained today and now the Valspar paint is all blistered up! After painting three sides of my house I noticed the Valspar paint was not drying so I painted the last quadrant of my house with paint from my Benjamin Moore dealer. The other paint dried in a matter of hours and it did not blister when it rained! Now what do I do? Sand down my house. Ridiculous.

In 8/2010, I purchased 2 gallons of Valspar Satin finish paint that Lowe's custom tinted for me. It is a deep green/brown color. I painted my large, high-ceilinged bedroom and spent considerable time taping and cutting in around white woodwork and white ceiling.

While rolling the paint, I noticed that the little bubbles that the roller creates which usually pop and recede as the paint begins to dry, were not flattening, but standing in small peaks. Also, after finishing, I realized that as the wet sheen of the paint began to disappear, lots of little bits of stuff stuck in the paint became visible. My walls were clean when I started. I now realize the paint was actually pulling pieces out of the roller. It was that sticky.

So, I thought, wait for it to dry, the surface will resolve itself. I've painted many rooms with many different kinds of paint in many houses over a lifetime and have never had any problems.

Well, it didn't dry!!!! Not for 2 months and still has that tacky feel.

Lowes gave me the Valspar customer service number. I called them and they promised to forward the problem to their local rep. But they didn't. I then spoke with the Lowe's store manager where I bought the paint. He contacted the rep who then visited. He guessed over the phone, by the way, that my paint color was brownish and my paint type was satin... interesting, huh? He said to try turning the heat on in the house (this is was air-conditioning weather, early fall in the Mid Atlantic). We heated the room for a day and there was some improvement, but it was not dry enough to be able to put anything against the walls w/o risking having it stick.

The rep visited... what a nice guy! He promised he was not going to walk away from this. He attested to the lack of drying and the peaks and the roller debris. He said he'd have the paint tested. Another month passes. I don't hear from him.

When I call I'm told the paint tested just fine, SURPRISE!

There was nothing he, a lowly rep, could do, the old "my hands are tied" defense but replace the paint and throw in a $50 gift certificate for Lowe's.

I have walls that are a mess. At the least, I'm looking at sanding the entire room and repainting. They will never be smooth. And how will the next coat of paint take? The paint hasn't cured.

His solution? Call his supervisor... his hands are tied. Why am I, the victim, supposed to fix this?

My plan is to hang out at the paint counter at Lowe's and warn fellow homeowners what they can expect. Of course, I drag everyone into my house to see first hand what the problem is.

Is there no justice? Watch out for Valspar. They're full of hot air, lame promises, delays. They pull the "wear them out" strategy.

Valspar paint and their company and Lowes ... do yourself a favor, go elsewhere and buy anyone else's paint.
